How to Turn Off Distractions & Hit Refresh?

You have a clean workstation to work on.

It is neatly arranged and complete with a planner, notebook and a succulent.

It looks like the most conducive workstation ever! Yet, you find it difficult to focus.

What could be causing this continuous strain on your mind that is limiting your productivity?

The answer is simple: it is your smartphone.

The notification bling is one of the most distracting things that can impede your productivity and efficiency at the workplace.

Every new message or notification breaks your chain of thought, thus, making it difficult to go back where you were earlier and continue with the same process.

Consider these notification pings as speed bumps. While your Ferrari is completely capable of a speed of 340-350 km/hr, yet a road dotted with speed bumps or traffic will rarely let you achieve that coveted speed.

Here's what you can do to ensure that you work with 100% concentration and efficiency, every time you are your workstation:

Turn Notifications Off

Do this for the apps that send you maximum notifications. My guess is social apps such as WhatsApp and Facebook are the ones that are dominating the notification scene these days.

Also, check your online shopping apps, which are as deadly as the message notifications. They flash on your screen to allure you into checking out their latest discounts, offers and collections.

The second part to achieve mindfulness and productivity at work, is meditation.

You don't need to start on a spiritual journey right away, if you are not ready for it.

There are simple ways to meditate. Sometimes, it is as simple as closing your eyes and turning your mind off.

If that seems like an undoable task, consider using some of these guided meditation apps mentioned in the Oprah Magazine.

“Meditation is like a gym in which you develop the powerful mental muscles of calm and insight.” - Ajahn Brahm

Therefore, it just takes two simple steps to attain efficiency, productivity and a calm mind at your workplace.

After all, it is not just the external calmness and cleanliness that helps boost productivity and creativity, but internal calmness and cleanliness, as well.

Here's what you can do to ensure that you work with 100% concentration and efficiency, every time you are at your workstation:
